On Saturday, World No.1 player Venus Williams is ready to show her dominance in the Sony Ericssion Open 2010 match at Crandon Park.

Venus Williams has been ranked World No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association on three different occasions; as of February 1, 2010, she is ranked World No. 5. She is the reigning Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open doubles champion and has won 20 Grand Slam titles: seven in women’s singles, eleven in women’s doubles and two in mixed doubles. In addition, she has won three Olympic gold medals, one in women’s singles and two in women’s doubles.

Venus started the 2010 year by losing to Maria Sharapova in straight sets in an exhibition match. As the defending champion, Venus played the Hong Kong Tennis Classic 2010. As a member of Team Americas with Gisela Dulko and Michael Chang, they won the Silver Group Final. Venus won both singles rubbers in the tournament against Caroline Wozniacki and Jie Zheng.

Venus then participated at the 2010 Dubai Tennis Championships, where she was the defending champion. Seeded third, she received a bye into the second round where she defeated Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 6-3. She then beat Olga Govortsova 7-5, 6-0 in the third round. In the quarter-finals it took Venus 7 match points to defeat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-4. In the semi-finals she defeated unseeded but talented Shahar Peer 6-1, 6-4. In the final she successfully defended her title by beating Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 7-5.
