Fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez also scored a victory on Tuesday, but not without difficulty. Johannesburg’s No. 3 seed ousted qualifier Benjamin Balleret 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3 in two hours and four minutes. Lopez won a shockingly bad four of 16 second-serve points in the final set, but he won 16 of 17 first-serve points to just barely fend off Balleret’s upset bid.

No. 4 seed Marco Chiudinelli failed to survive Dustin Brown’s challenge. The Swiss succumbed to Brown 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 after one hour and 35 minutes of play. Brown saved an amazing 11 of 12 break points, including all nine that he faced during the final set.

Registering at No. 141 in the world, the 25-year-old Brown is the only player from Jamaica in the entirety of the ATP ranking system. Brown, who fired 13 aces past Chiudinelli, will meet Laurent Recouderc for a spot in the quarterfinals.(source)
