Exactly a year ago in the Dubai 2009, Venus Williams won the trophy by defeating the Dementieva and Serena Williams on the hard courts. The Third seeded American veteran is now performing the same form in this 2010 by defeating the Lisicki with 6-2 6-3 in the opening match and Govortsova with 7-5, 6-0 in the second match.

In today’s match, she is going to face A Pavlyuchenkova in the quarterfinals of Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship.

Pavlyuchenkova had a good record over Venus Williams. She has defeated Venus Williams twice at Tokyo and Beijing in a span of three weeks. Both were hard fought matches where Venus really tried to show dominance, but ultimately failed. The 18-year old Russian is one of those players who could become a big star in the future, but she really needs more substance.

But, Pavlyuchenkova is not performing well in early seasons this year and she was defeated by top players such as Kuznetsova and Dementieva with relative ease in the last couple of weeks.

So, Pavlyuchenkova won’t be a tough competitor to the Venus Williams.
