Increase in US Open 2009 Prize Money

The US Tennis Association has some good news for players participating in the US Open 2009 Grand Slam. The prize money has been increased by nearly 6% to a record $21.6 million. The winner of US Open 2009 Men’s and Women’s Singles will receive $1.6 million.

It’s not all, as the top 3 finishers at the US Open will receive an additional bonus money upto $2.6 million. Roger Federer won a record $2.4 million in 2007 and Kim Clijsters won $2.2 million in 2005. Roger Federer won US Open last year beating Andy Murray in straight sets.

The tournament starts on August 31, 2009.
